The 2026-27 season is underway for the Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy’s three programs, with each squaring off against a rival from west of the Cascades this past weekend.

The Academy’s 18-and-Under team battled the Seattle Jr. Kraken to a 5-2 loss on Saturday before taking the Jr. Kraken to a shootout in a 6-5 loss on Sunday. The 16U team had its best luck on Saturday afternoon in a 2-1 finish, before seeing Seattle clinch the sweep with a 5-0 win on Sunday.

The 14U weekend team suffered an 8-0 defeat on Saturday afternoon, but made its debut on the scoreboard Sunday in a 5-2 defeat against the Jr. Kraken. Dewayne Brown and Easton Harwood notched the two Wenatchee goals in the latter game.

The 16U team gets a jump on the Canadian Sport School Hockey League schedule this weekend with three home games against STAR Academy. Friday’s game will be played on the Town Toyota Center ice at 7 p.m., while the teams shift to the Weinstein Beverage Rink for their 11 a.m. start on Saturday, before returning to the arena ice Sunday at 9 a.m. The 18s will play one of their two regular-season road games against Seattle on Friday, with the latter of Wenatchee’s two games at the Kraken Community Iceplex scheduled for October 2.

However, the busiest team on the weekend will be the 14s, who travel to the CCM Denver tournament – more than 110 teams will compete in the tournament across the Denver metro area, across 11 divisions and seven age groups. The Wild Hockey Academy is guaranteed four games in the tournament, starting with a matchup against the Littleton Hawks on Friday afternoon. Wenatchee faces the Wasatch Renegades on Friday evening, and will take on the Colorado Rampage Saturday afternoon. One more game is guaranteed for the team on Saturday evening.
